Summer Terms 1 and 2 ‘Hidden Woods’

This term Willow Class will be learning all about woodlands as part of our topic Hidden Woods. We will be looking at habitats including microhabitats. We will be using the woodland in Mike’s Meadow for much of our investigating and we will start to compare this with other woodlands around the world e.g. rainforests. The children will learn about how a woodland survives and grows as well as thinking about the effects of human activity on forests globally and locally. We are lucky enough this term to work again with Aleks Domansky and Marian Hill. The children will be looking at the habitat of the pond and comparing this directly with the habitat of the woodland area. They will learn about the creatures and plants which inhabit many areas around our school and village. We hope to visit Slimbridge to further investigate birds as part of our topic and science work. We will also make a visit to our local river and meadows to investigate habitats further. We will also be planting seeds and watching how they grow. We will build on the science knowledge from last year and investigate what plants need to survive. In art the children will be painting, collaging, printing and weaving!
