Outdoor Learning

Alongside the development of Mike’s Meadow, our outdoor learning environment at Batheaston Church School, has established a natural haven for our children to engage with nature and wildlife indigenous to our local setting. All classes from Reception to Year 6 have open access to Mike’s Meadow, with allotted time, for each class in their timetable, for planned experiences within the Meadow. Environmental studies, mindful activities and scientific investigations form the basis for exciting outdoor learning. Alongside this the children access the beauty and charm of Mike’s Meadow to further enhance academic subjects such as maths, literacy, art, design and technology, geography and even history where the odd Roman encampment has been built. The very young in our school love nothing more that going on bear hunts, building dens and watching the birds and insects flourish.

Forest School 2024-2025

All classes from Reception to Year Six, take part in Forest school sessions, led by Dominika, from Creative Roots. Each class will have 3 consecutive morning sessions, taking place over 3 weeks. Dominika is a trained Forest School specialist, who currently runs Creative Roots from Mike’s Meadow.  This is a great experience for the children and staff, which has been funded by our FoBS Team. See below the timetable for the year.  Please ensure that your child brings in appropriate clothing for a whole morning outside.
