Spring Terms ‘Journey to Jo’Burg’

Our topic this term in Maple Class is “Journey to Jo’burg”, centred around the book written by Beverly Naidoo that tells the story of two brave siblings who made the difficult journey to Johannesburg. This is a topic that allows us to dive into both our historical and geographical enquiry skills. Our History lessons will focus on understanding the impart of Apartheid on South African society and the key individuals involved in making change, whilst in Geography, we will explore the physical and human landscape of Johannesburg today. Across the curriculum, we will also be looking at traditional South African recipes, music and art to help us understand and compare this country’s diverse culture to our own.
