The Great Sun Bear

The crashing, bashing thunder came from Sun Bear's claws. The noise was terrible. Mowzi stared out of the window and could hear the frightening noise. The great bear had a giant jaw and shocking roar...She shivered.

The boats were all rocking and breaking through the waves, forwards and backwards. The crackling, wavy roots coming from the body of Sun Bear were terrifying. The storm that night was showering down and the hole in the road was full from the crashing waves.

(Story setting inspired by The Mousehole Cat by Antonia Barber)

The Strawberry Fields

Ohkwa'ri slowly crawled out of his den, the sun shone bright in his eyes as he came outside. The sky was clear blue and the leaves rustled in the sweet strawberry scented breeze. He plodded down the hillside in the soft, warm grass to where the strawberries grew.

He decided to look for his sister Otsi:stia. There was a crowd of people looking for more strawberries. In the very corner of the sweet scented fields he found her. "Hi," she said calmly. Her basket was half full, she had made it with bark, mud and grass, "here, have some," she said and handed him a handful. He ate them quickly.

Bellina Bliss

Bellina Bliss trotted into the busy playground on the first day of term with her frills wavering in the wind. Everyone stopped to envy her spotless skirt and the neatly tied ribbon in her hair. Suddenly all the eyes were no longer on Bellina! What could have taken the attention away from her? A girl called Poppy Poshling had strutted through the gate. "Look at her with her little diamond earings and her pink summer dress; how could a new girl have the whole school stop and look?" whispered Bellina to herself.

The Wrong Parcel

He raced down the stairs as Mum called him for breakfast. It was jam on toast, like always. He heard the bell ring and this meant that his package had arrived. The postman carefully handed him the large cardboard box. He grabbed a razor sharp pair of scissors and stabbed them into the murky brown parcel tape. Quickly he ripped the box open and scrambled through the little pieces of polystyrene and immediately knew it was the wrong parcel.
