Guided Tour
Our
school has been an established part of the local community
for over 100 years. We are extremely fortunate to have
gained additional teaching accommodation a few years
ago. A large extension has been built on to the beautiful
original Victorian classroom block, providing spacious
purpose-designed activity areas, a lovely new Library,
Food Science Room and Computer Suite. The original classrooms were re-designed and renovated providing a really attractive learning environment for the children. A beautiful new Music Pavilion has been built, which houses our Steel Pans, and which leads onto a platform and amphitheatre for performances. The Hall has been extended to provide additional storage space and additional accommodation for our Breakfast Club and After School Club.
The
whole site has been re-designed to make it totally accessible
for disabled children and visitors. This includes ramps,
toilet facilities, door openings at appropriate height
etc. |

Playground
In
the playground we have lots of space for the children
to run around and have also strived hard to provide facilities
that encourage a great deal of creative play.
These
include the sandpit, the playground cover and the
amphitheatre which is used both for play and as a
place for performances
such as "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
There are other areas where the children can relax or play including the wildlife area; the Mediterranean Garden; the bark trail, the limestone henge; the seats by the brook or beside one of the animal pens. One of our important aims at the school is to develop in the children a love of the outdoor environment, and spending time studying and enjoying themselves in this way.

Library
The school library is situated in the heart of the school and is available to the children throughout the day. The library is divided into infant and junior sections which contain both fiction and non-fiction books. Although the children can choose books which interest them from either section, this division supports them to make appropriate choices whether they are looking to read for pleasure, choose a book for home or to research their class topic.

School Hall
We have recently invested in an exciting range of new PE equipment. The children enjoy a large range of physical activities including basketball, lacrosse, football, gymnastics and many kinds of dance.
The hall is also used at lunchtimes for the children to eat their dinner. The children eat in 'family groups' comprising all age groups and are looked after by the Class 7 children. |

Music Pavillion
We are very fortunate to have a new music pavilion built for the children and teachers to use. This new facility provides a fantastic opportunity for individual/group music lessons to take place within the tranquil setting of the school grounds. The music pavilion comes fully sound-proofed with glass sliding doors. These allow for open-air performances to take place on the decked platform.

Energy
Last year we installed examples of solar, wind and water powered energy.
There are two types of Photovoltaic (PV) cells on the rooves, Thermomax solar tubes for a hot water system, a Water Wheel and a Wind Turbine.

We also have class equipment for solar experiments, a solar fountain and a bike that illustrates energy produced through the human ‘power’ of cycling.
Children study the output from the various renewable energy installations and cross reference this with data from our weather station sensors. They will also gradually learn the technical backgrounds to these systems. |
|
Ecology
The pond and platform provide the opportunity for the study of animal and plant life.
This area also houses our weather station with instruments for measuring temperature, rainfall and windspeed.
We care for a variety of animals on site including guinea pigs, rabits and larger animals such as sheep and goats on extended loan from Norwood Rare Breeds Farm.
