Enrichment
Day –25th February 2010

“There’s a real buzz
about, isn’t there?”
Enrichment day had just
begun, and the observer was quite right – there was a tangible sense of
excitement filling the school. The children had had an opportunity to choose
between 13 fabulous workshops and they were just gathering into their cross-age
groups in order to begin their morning. From ‘Dance, Art and Big Lumps of Rock’
to ‘Seriously Science’; from ‘Strong Enough for Gym?’ to ‘Maths at the Movies’;
from ‘Magical Images’ to ‘In the Forest’, the children all had a chance to have
great fun – and extend their learning!
– for a full morning focusing on a workshop of
their choice.
“It couldn’t have got any
better – it was totally awesome” and “I wish we had had longer!” were just two
of the children’s comments at the end of the morning. Lots of smiling faces
(adults and children alike!) showed that the day had been a great success – and
the next one is already in the pipeline for June! If you didn’t get a chance to
be involved, or to see the show of work and documentation, make sure you are on board for next time!
Volunteers are always welcome!!

Batheaston C.E.V.C. Primary School
Goes Eco!
Everything at Batheaston CEVC Primary School
has been going green this week, as the children have all been taking part in an
Eco Week. Each day has had a different theme, including water, waste and
energy, and the children in every class have been learning about many different
environmental issues each day. Managing without their bins, having an afternoon
without any lights and only using scrap paper for their work have been some of
the challenges that they have faced during the week. Some children have thought
up some amazing eco inventions, others have designed pollution information posters,
whilst the oldest children have debated the issues surrounding wind farms.
Meanwhile,
members of the school’s Eco-Team have planned their own eco-lesson to deliver
to a class. Lots of fun and games have been had during the week, and the
children and adults alike have had to think hard about the issues involved. The
children have fundraised for WaterAid, via their ‘Buckets of Pennies for
Buckets of Water’ fundraising project and the week culminated in the children
dressing up as a fruit or vegetable to come to school! It was agreed that the funds collected today
are going to be donated to the Haitian relief fund.
